Ghanaians who love the Black Stars are feeling deeply anxious as confusion surrounds the national team coaching job. Ghana Football Association Executive Council member Nana Oduro Sarfo has confirmed that football leaders are actively talking with other coaches.
The search for fresh management comes as negotiations with current head coach Carlos Queiroz hit a major roadblock over financial demands. The GFA believes the seventy three year old Portuguese trainer is asking for terms and conditions that the country cannot meet.
Queiroz took charge on a short term contract in April 2026, replacing former coach Otto Addo. Despite having very little preparation time, the veteran tactician guided Ghana through the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage, leading the team into the knockout rounds for the first time since 2010.
Even though President John Dramani Mahama publicly urged the GFA to retain Queiroz for continuity, the association is moving quickly to find alternative options. GFA officials want a coach in place before the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers begin in September 2026.
Ghana will kick off its AFCON qualifying campaign in Group C with a tough opening match against neighbors Côte d’Ivoire, alongside games against The Gambia and Somalia. Football supporters across the country are hoping the GFA acts fast so the team gets proper technical direction before crucial matches start
