The National Disaster Management Organisation has issued a very strict warning to all communities along the White Volta River. Operators of the famous Bagre Dam in Burkina Faso have officially confirmed they will begin a controlled water spillage of the Barge Dam spillage today August 11. The dam reservoir has unfortunately reached its absolute critical level of 234 metres.

This is clearly not the time to play stubborn or test your swimming skills. The Water Resources Commission together with NADMO strongly urge everyone living in low lying areas to evacuate immediately. The upcoming rush of water from the SONABEL managed dam will easily wash away anything standing in its way.

We all know this Bagre Dam spillage happens quite often but the destructive power is always fresh. Farmers working closely along the riverbanks are advised to harvest their available crops very quickly before the water ruins everything. You must securely move your livestock and expensive farming equipment to much higher and safer grounds today.

It is honestly better to lose a small portion of your harvest than to lose your precious life. Local authorities and assembly members are currently moving from town to town spreading this urgent flood warning. Please listen to them and strictly follow all basic safety instructions provided by the security agencies.

Parents have a massive responsibility to keep a very close eye on their children during this dangerous period of the Bagre Dam Spillage. Ensure nobody attempts to cross flooded waterways or play near the rising river banks. Let us all stay safe and help our neighbours pack up quickly before the heavy waters finally hit our shores.
