Former footballer Fabio Paim, 38, is set to stand trial in Portugal over allegations that he raped a university student after allegedly forcing his way into her apartment.
The case has attracted attention because of Paim’s past in football and his later move into adult entertainment. Portuguese media reports that the trial will begin on 18 November 2026. Paim faces allegations of rape, criminal damage and unlawful entry. The charges remain allegations, and the court will determine the facts of the case.
The allegations relate to an incident in Faro, Portugal, during the early hours of 20 April 2023. According to reports citing the prosecution, Paim allegedly forced his way into a building and entered an apartment shared by university students.
One of the students reportedly confronted him after waking up. The prosecution alleges that he assaulted the woman before raping her. Other residents reportedly intervened, after which the suspect left the property. Investigators later used biological evidence and witness accounts to help identify the suspect, according to Portuguese media reports.
Paim came through Sporting CP’s youth system in Portugal and once attracted attention as a promising young footballer. He later joined Chelsea on loan in 2008, although he played for the club’s reserves rather than establishing himself in its first team. His football career did not reach the heights many had expected.
In later years, Paim also attracted public attention for his involvement in adult entertainment. The latest allegations have once again placed his name in the headlines, but his previous career and public profile do not establish whether the current charges are true.
The former player has reportedly rejected the allegations and maintained that an accusation does not amount to a conviction. His defence will have the opportunity to present its position through the legal process.
The trial, scheduled for 18 November 2026, will allow the Portuguese court to examine the evidence and hear the case. Until the court reaches a decision, Paim remains accused rather than convicted in this matter.
