Kobby Mensah, a former parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ablekuma West, has voiced intense frustration after the demolition of his property.
Mr. Mensah claims he played a pivotal role in the NDC’s return to power by providing significant financial and resource-based support during the partyโs time in opposition. He alleges that the current Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and the local Member of Parliament are using their positions to intimidate him by targeting his ongoing projects.
Mr. Mensah asserts that the demolished structure was a legally developed property with all necessary documentation from state institutions. He provided the following details regarding the property’s legitimacy:
- He acquired the property in 1997 and has followed all required administrative processes since that time.
- In 2014, the Lands Commission corresponded with the Metropolitan Assembly regarding the land.
- The Assembly surveyed the area and officially confirmed that the location is zoned for residential use.
The former parliamentary candidate argues that the enforcement action was not applied equally to all properties in the area. He highlighted several inconsistencies that lead him to believe he was specifically targeted:
- He noted that there are over 40 containers located in the same area that were left untouched during the exercise.
- He questioned why only his registered property was affected, while other structures in the vicinity remained standing.
- He expressed anger that only part of his building was demolished, leaving the remainder of the structure intact.
Kobby Mensah has declared his intention to hold the responsible officials accountable through the judicial system. He maintains that he will not allow the intimidation to go unchallenged and plans to take the following steps:
- He intends to sue both the Municipal Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament for their roles in the demolition.
- He is determined to ensure that the law takes its course to address what he views as unfair treatment by appointees of the party he helped bring to power.
- He stated clearly that those involved in the exercise will not be allowed to go “scot-free” for their actions against his legitimate property.
