Ghana is actively pursuing a potential visa waiver agreement with the Czech Republic. This initiative was announced by Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa following high-level discussions with his Czech counterpart, Petr Macinka, in Prague.
The talks are part of a broader strategy spearheaded by Minister Ablakwa to secure more visa waiver agreements throughout the year. This push is designed to elevate the global standing of the Ghanaian passport and facilitate smoother international travel for its citizens.
Beyond the focus on travel documentation, the meeting served to strengthen overall cooperation between the two nations. Several key development projects were at the center of these discussions:
- The two parties reviewed the revival of €48 million bridge projects currently situated in Ghana.
- The meeting covered the expansion plans for VAMED hospitals.
- Ongoing negotiations are in progress to supply new buses aimed at improving Ghana’s public transport infrastructure.
Minister Ablakwa’s visit to Prague was also motivated by his participation in the GLOBSEC forum. During this event, he addressed several critical international themes:
- He shared reflections on Africa’s role within the context of a shifting global order.
- He advocated for the Ghana-led coalition focused on reparatory justice.
These diplomatic efforts underscore the government’s commitment to enhancing Ghana’s influence on the international stage while simultaneously delivering tangible infrastructure benefits at home.
