Religion is supposed to bring us together in peace and harmony across our communities. However recent events in the country have forced security agencies to step up and issue strong warnings. The Ghana Police Service has officially cautioned the public against making inflammatory remarks. Preachers and commentators must realize that inciting violence under the guise of faith is completely unacceptable.
The stern warning follows recent viral videos where certain individuals made dangerous statements inciting harm.The Ghana Police acting alongside the National Signals Bureau swiftly moved in to arrest suspects involved in these utterances. Authorities made it clear that freedom of speech and religion does not give anyone the license to encourage violence. Nobody possesses the legal right to threaten other citizens or promote lawlessness in the name of God.
Religious leaders carry massive influence over their congregations so their words carry heavy consequences. Preaching hate or encouraging followers to take the law into their own hands destroys our national peace. Ghana remains a peaceful secular state where Christians Muslims and traditionalists coexist happily side by side. We must protect this enviable unity by guarding our tongues both inside places of worship and online.
The police have assured the public that they will enforce the laws without fear or favour. Perpetrators who hide behind pulpits or social media handles to preach extremism will face full prosecution. Citizens should always report anyone trying to use religious differences to cause confusion in our neighborhoods. Let us keep promoting tolerance and mutual respect so our dear country continues to thrive in absolute peace.
