The Ghana Railway authorities have officially started repair works on our beautiful new train. This action follows a very surprising accident on the busy Tema Harbour to Afienya route.
Nobody expects a modern transport system to fight for space with roaming domestic animals. However the famous DMU 002 passenger train recently collided with goats while operating its regular schedule.
News reports from Channel One TV confirm the train was safely carrying over 150 passengers. The experienced driver was moving at about 45 kilometres per hour when the animals suddenly appeared on the railway tracks.
A heavy train moving at that speed simply cannot hit the brakes like a local trotro on the highway. The unexpected collision completely damaged the lower front section of the locomotive engine.
Professional engineers are currently working hard to restore the affected area of the train. They are carefully fixing the broken parts to bring the passenger train back to full service as soon as possible.
The railway authority boss Frederick Appoh is seriously warning the general public about these continuous safety threats. He wants livestock owners to understand that moving trains cannot just swerve or change direction to save wandering animals.
Allowing goats and cattle to roam freely near the tracks is a massive risk to human life and government property. We must all support the railway authorities by keeping livestock completely away from the transport corridors.
This simple community discipline will prevent unnecessary financial losses and keep every commuter safe during their daily journeys. We definitely need the passenger train looking brand new and running smoothly again.
