Every day, commuters navigate heavy traffic around the University of Professional Studies Accra junction with caution and worry.
On a fateful Thursday afternoon, a young law student named Ivan Baidoo booked a ride using a popular app. He hopped onto a motorbike managed by rider Samuel Arthur Wesley to beat the congestion and reach his destination. Little did they know that a routine traffic maneuver would soon turn into a fatal disaster on the highway.
The high-speed chase to the motorway
Reports indicate that a police patrol team member, General Corporal Robert Koranteng, pursued the motorbike from the UPSA area. The chase stretched all the way onto the Tema Motorway near the old toll booth zone. Eyewitness accounts and family petitions state that the officer caught up with the moving bike and kicked or struck it. That dangerous action caused the machine to lose balance, throwing both occupants onto the hard concrete barrier.
Heartbreak at the hospital doors
Ivan Baidoo suffered severe head injuries, broken ribs, and internal bleeding from that violent crash on the asphalt. A good Samaritan rushed them to the hospital, but the young Central University law student unfortunately did not make it. His family later received the devastating news when someone answered his mobile phone to break the heartbreaking reality. What started as a simple trip across town ended in deep mourning for a promising young life cut short.
Accountability and the path to justice
Public outrage sparked after viral footage and persistent family petitions forced the Ghana Police Service to take action. The accused policeman was swiftly interdicted, arrested, and put before the court to face direct murder charges.
The Homicide Unit of the CID and the Professional Standards Bureau have taken over to uncover the full truth. Ghanaians are watching closely, hoping this serious legal step brings genuine closure and strict discipline to law enforcement.
