Salamatu Haruna experienced this harsh reality firsthand when she had to carry heavy loads as a kayayo just to fund her education. Carrying basins under the scorching sun at Makola market tested her physical endurance and inner strength daily. Despite earning a diploma from the University for Development Studies, poverty threatened to block her academic dreams completely.
Viral stories have a unique way of catching the right attention in Ghana when shared across digital platforms. When her inspiring Kayayo struggle reached the University for Development Studies (UDS) administration, the leadership stepped up immediately. Vice Chancellor Professor Mohammed Muniru intervened personally to rescue the brilliant young scholar from the streets. Her dedication moved leadership to grant her full admission and financial support to advance her studies.
Management also arranged a decent part-time job to keep her comfortable while preparing for the upcoming academic session. This incredible turnaround proves that determination combined with timely help can rewrite any difficult life story. Salamatu now moves from pushing a truck on busy streets to sitting proudly inside lecture halls where she truly belongs.
