Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has explained that the government does not have the authority to dissolve the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
His comments come amid growing calls from some Ghanaians for changes to the administration of football in the country.
According to Kofi Adams, the GFA is a legally recognised association and the government cannot simply decide to dissolve it.
He explained that although the government supports Ghana’s national teams, that relationship does not give the government the power to dissolve the GFA.
The minister said the focus should instead be on the existing structures responsible for accountability within the football association.
He also noted that where there are allegations of criminal conduct involving any football official, the appropriate legal processes can be followed.
The comments come at a time when the administration of Ghana football is facing increased public attention, with discussions about the performance and management of the Black Stars.
Kofi Adams’ explanation has therefore added to the ongoing debate about the role of government in Ghana football and the independence of the GFA.
