Official government data reveals that galamsey activities have destroyed roughly 8,900 hectares of productive land across various regions. This massive environmental damage demands immediate attention from every concerned citizen.
Law enforcement agencies have also stepped up their game to clamp down on recalcitrant operators in the bush. Authorities confirmed that joint security task forces have successfully arrested 258 suspects linked to illegal mining operations. These individuals will soon face strict prosecution to serve as a strong deterrent to others. Mining our natural resources without proper permits is a serious crime that destroys our collective future.
The government crackdown also exposed massive logistical networks fueling these illegal activities across the country. Official records show that over 4,000 heavy-duty excavators have been intercepted or tracked at our entry ports. Authorities are currently validating these seized machines and enrolling them on a central digital tracking platform. This smart technological approach ensures that heavy equipment no longer finds its way into protected forest reserves.
Protecting our major water bodies like the Pra, Birim, and Ankobra rivers remains a top national priority. Citizens must support the ministry as they transition from aggressive enforcement into full-scale land reclamation programmes.
