LEGO Unveils Detailed Hubble Space Telescope Set Launching August 1

LEGO has officially introduced a new addition to its popular Icons collection with the launch of a highly detailed Hubble Space Telescope building set, giving space enthusiasts and adult collectors the opportunity to recreate one of history’s most iconic scientific instruments in brick form.

The 1,252-piece LEGO Icons Hubble Space Telescope will go on sale on August 1 with a retail price of $139.99. Designed primarily for adult builders, the model celebrates more than 35 years of the famous space observatory’s contributions to astronomy and space exploration.

According to LEGO, the new set captures the appearance and engineering of the Hubble Space Telescope while including several interactive features and scientifically inspired details.

Detailed Replica of a Space Icon

Standing approximately 12.5 inches (32 centimeters) tall, the completed model includes movable components that allow builders to explore different aspects of the telescope’s design.

The model features opening aperture doors, adjustable solar panels, movable antennas and removable outer panels that reveal the telescope’s internal instrument bay.

Inside, builders can view brick-built representations of Hubble’s primary and secondary mirrors, gyroscopes and other key scientific components that have enabled the observatory to capture some of the universe’s most remarkable images.

The set is displayed on a presentation stand featuring an information plaque that highlights the telescope’s history and technical specifications.

Celebrating 35 Years of Discovery

Launched aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery in 1990, the Hubble Space Telescope has transformed humanity’s understanding of the universe.

Although an initial flaw in its primary mirror limited its early performance, astronauts corrected the problem during the first of five servicing missions, allowing Hubble to become one of the most successful scientific instruments ever built.

Over the past three decades, the telescope has helped scientists study distant galaxies, black holes, nebulae, star formation and the expansion of the universe.

Its spectacular images have also made it one of the most recognizable scientific missions in history.

Famous Images Included

The display base includes miniature recreations of several of Hubble’s most celebrated astronomical photographs.

Among them are the Pillars of Creation in the Eagle Nebula, the Whirlpool Galaxy, and the Butterfly Nebula, giving builders a visual reminder of some of the telescope’s greatest scientific achievements.

The display plaque also includes the NASA and European Space Agency (ESA) logos, information about the real spacecraft, and the dates of Hubble’s five servicing missions.

An emblem marking the telescope’s 35th anniversary is also featured on the display.

Astronaut Minifigure Included

The set comes with a single astronaut minifigure wearing an Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) spacesuit similar to those used by NASA astronauts during the Hubble servicing missions.

The figure also includes a brick-built version of the specialized pistol-grip power tool astronauts used while performing maintenance on the telescope in orbit.

While only one astronaut is included, all Hubble servicing spacewalks were actually carried out by teams of two astronauts working together.

Third LEGO Hubble Model

The new release marks the third time LEGO has featured the Hubble Space Telescope in one of its official sets.

Earlier versions appeared alongside the Space Shuttle Discovery STS-31 set released in 2003 and the LEGO Icons NASA Space Shuttle Discovery introduced in 2021.

In both cases, however, Hubble served as a secondary model accompanying the space shuttle.

The new Icons release places the telescope itself at the center of attention with significantly greater detail and functionality than previous versions.

Designed for Space Enthusiasts

The LEGO Icons Hubble Space Telescope continues LEGO’s growing lineup of space-themed collectible models aimed at adult builders.

By combining scientific accuracy with interactive design elements, the set offers both a rewarding building experience and a display piece celebrating one of humanity’s greatest achievements in space exploration.

The LEGO Icons Hubble Space Telescope (Set 11382) will be available beginning August 1 through LEGO stores and the company’s online shop for $139.99, giving astronomy fans another opportunity to bring a legendary spacecraft into their collection.
