Ghanaian comedian Lekzy De Comic has opened up about the challenges he has faced in his comedy career and the impact of his professional journey on his personal relationships ahead of his upcoming show at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).
His reflections offer a glimpse into the realities of working in Ghana’s entertainment industry, where talent alone is not always enough to build a successful and sustainable career.
The comments come ahead of Lekzy Unleashed – The Godfathers Edition, scheduled for Saturday, November 7, 2026, at the UPSA Auditorium.
The event is expected to bring together some of Ghana’s comedy legends, established entertainers and emerging performers for a night celebrating the country’s comedy industry.
Building a career in Ghana’s comedy industry
Lekzy De Comic has spent more than a decade building his name in the comedy industry through live performances, comedy productions and appearances at entertainment events.
However, his journey has not been without challenges.
Like many performers in Ghana, comedians face difficulties securing sponsorship, attracting financial support and organising quality shows. Producing a successful comedy event requires careful planning and significant investment in venue arrangements, sound, lighting, promotion and other logistical needs.
Lekzy has previously highlighted the need for greater corporate support for Ghanaian comedians. Such backing, he believes, can help performers improve their productions, reach wider audiences and create more opportunities for local talent.
The challenges behind the laughter
Although audiences mainly see comedians entertaining people on stage, there is considerable work behind every performance.
Comedians must constantly develop fresh material, maintain their public image, attract audiences and find ways to sustain their careers in a competitive entertainment industry.
For performers who organise their own shows, the responsibility goes beyond preparing jokes and entertaining audiences. They must also handle planning, marketing, production and the financial risks involved in staging an event.
These realities highlight the determination and commitment required to build a lasting career in Ghana’s comedy industry.
Relationships and life beyond comedy
Lekzy’s comments have also brought attention to relationships and the personal side of life as an entertainer.
Balancing a demanding entertainment career with personal relationships can be difficult, especially when professional commitments require long hours, frequent appearances and time away from loved ones.
The discussion highlights the importance of balancing professional ambitions with personal responsibilities.
UPSA show to celebrate Ghana’s comedy pioneers
The upcoming Lekzy Unleashed – The Godfathers Edition will honour three prominent personalities who have contributed to the development of Ghanaian comedy: Kweku Sintim-Misa, popularly known as KSM, Fritz Baffour and Tommy Annan-Forson.
Lekzy has described bringing the three personalities together as a personal milestone and an opportunity to recognise the contributions of those who helped create a foundation for younger comedians.
The show will also feature established and emerging entertainers, including Clemento Suarez, DKB, Foster Romanus, Jeneral Ntatia, Kwaku Manu, Khemikal, Mr Beautiful, David Oscar, Parrot Mouth, Percy Obrempong, James Brown and Jeffery Nortey.
International performers Chris Mapane from South Africa and Deacon Famous from Nigeria are also expected to join the event.
Rapper Okyeame Kwame and the Kyemkyem Band are expected to provide musical entertainment.
A celebration of Ghana’s comedy journey
For Lekzy, the event represents more than another comedy performance. It is an opportunity to recognise the pioneers whose work helped shape the industry and created opportunities for the next generation.
By bringing experienced comedians and younger performers together, the show aims to connect different generations and celebrate the growth of comedy in Ghana.
As preparations continue for the November 7 event, Lekzy’s reflections on career struggles and relationships offer audiences a glimpse into the realities behind his entertainment journey.
The UPSA show is expected to give comedy lovers an opportunity to enjoy performances from some of the country’s recognised entertainers while celebrating Ghana’s comedy heritage.
