The Minority in Parliament is calling for the removal of Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams and Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) CEO Maame Efua Houadjeto.
The call is linked to alleged visa irregularities surrounding the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The demand was made by Vincent Ekow Assafuah, Ranking Member of Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee.
He spoke during a press briefing on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
According to Assafuah, the issue goes beyond the National Sports Authority (NSA).
He said questions must also be asked about the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the GTA and private entity TRIBE Culture Fest.
Assafuah alleged that some people who travelled to the United States for the World Cup through arrangements involving the Sports Ministry and GTA have not returned to Ghana.
“According to information available to us, several individuals who travelled to the US for the 2026 World Cup through arrangements facilitated by the Ministry of Sports and GTA have not returned,” he said.
The Minority is also questioning the submission of names to foreign diplomatic missions.
It is seeking clarity on claims that some individuals were presented as NSA staff or affiliates.
Assafuah said the allegations must be properly investigated.
He wants authorities to establish whether any laws or rules were breached.
The Minority is also calling for possible prosecution of anyone found to have committed an offence.
The issue follows earlier controversy over alleged visa arrangements connected to the World Cup.
The NSA has previously denied authorising any scheme to collect money from people in exchange for visa assistance.
The latest demand also comes after President John Dramani Mahama took action against former NSA Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.
However, reports have differed on whether the action was a dismissal or suspension.
Assafuah said the matter should not end with action against one official.
He wants a wider investigation into the roles of all institutions and individuals allegedly connected to the arrangements.
The allegations against the officials have not been proven.
Any criminal liability will have to be established through proper investigations and the legal process.
