Have you recently checked your MTN data balance and wondered who exactly is drinking all your megabytes? You are definitely not alone in this daily struggle. Many Ghanaians constantly complain about their internet bundles vanishing into thin air before the actual expiry date.
The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana Stephen Blewett recently dropped a huge bombshell regarding this issue. He officially revealed that TikTok currently consumes the biggest chunk of internet data on their network. The short video platform eats up gigabytes faster than we eat hot kenkey and fish.
This revelation makes plenty of logical sense because high quality video streaming drains internet bundles very quickly. However this explanation does not fully solve the mystery for every single customer. What exactly happens to the data of a grandmother who only uses WhatsApp to send morning prayers?
Many subscribers do not even have the TikTok application installed on their smartphones. Yet they still experience the same rapid data depletion everyday. Blaming one single social media platform simply ignores the bigger picture and leaves many paying customers deeply frustrated.
Telling us the main problem is good but we urgently need practical solutions from the telecom giant. MTN needs to provide better tools that help ordinary customers track their exact usage in real time. They should easily see which hidden background applications are secretly feeding on their purchased bundles.
Until the network provides complete transparency we must take matters into our own hands wisely. You should actively turn off background data usage for heavy applications in your phone settings. Also remember to switch your video streaming quality from high definition to data saver mode immediately.
Taking these smart steps will help you protect your precious data bundles from disappearing mysteriously. We hope MTN will eventually introduce more friendly data packages that truly give Ghanaians proper value for their hard earned money.
