The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has begun community stakeholder engagements to complement its ongoing enforcement operations across Ghana.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening cooperation between enforcement officials and local communities in the fight against illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.
Through the engagements, NAIMOS seeks to encourage community participation, improve public awareness and build stronger relationships with stakeholders to support efforts to address illegal mining activities.
The community engagements are expected to complement ongoing enforcement measures by promoting cooperation and encouraging residents to support efforts to protect Ghana’s water bodies, forests and other natural resources.
The initiative also highlights the importance of involving local stakeholders in addressing the environmental and social challenges associated with illegal mining.
By combining enforcement operations with community engagement, NAIMOS aims to strengthen the collective response to illegal mining across the country.
Further details about the specific communities involved, the stakeholders engaged and the next stages of the initiative were not provided in the announcement.
