The National Democratic Congress has suspended its Awutu Senya East Constituency Chairman, Stephen Ofosu Agyare, from office for five months. General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey signed the official suspension letter on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, following executive deliberations on party discipline.
The decision followed a formal petition submitted by the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, alongside recommendations from the Central Regional Council of Elders.
The Functional Executive Committee invoked Articles 48(4) and 48(6) of the NDC constitution to effect the immediate suspension. The party executive has referred the entire case to the National Disciplinary Committee for further investigation and final determination.
During this five month suspension period, Stephen Ofosu Agyare cannot perform official executive duties or exercise administrative authority within the constituency. Copies of the petition and regional elders’ findings have been forwarded to regional and constituency party executives for full compliance.
The suspension follows intense internal friction between Constituency Chairman Ofosu Agyare and MP Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor. A viral WhatsApp voice recording attributed to the chairman contained personal claims about an intimate relationship and a rejected marriage proposal involving the lawmaker.
In addition to personal allegations, political factions within the constituency point to disputes over political sidelining and an alleged misdirection of a 2026 FIFA World Cup ticket from the Presidency. Disagreements between constituency leadership and sitting parliamentarians often disrupt local party organization if left unaddressed.
Enforcing constitutional discipline helps political parties manage conflicts before internal disputes harm grassroots organization. Allowing the National Disciplinary Committee to investigate claims ensures fair hearing procedures for all involved party members.
Resolving constituency leadership disputes peacefully maintains unity and keeps political organizations focused on parliamentary representation and community development. The NDC leadership expects all executives in Awutu Senya East to respect party structures throughout the disciplinary process.
