Ghana is getting another taste of Nollywood and Kumawood collaboration as Nigerian stars Patience Ozokwor, Mike Ezuruonye, Zubby Michael and Destiny Etiko arrive in the country for Kwadwo Nkansah Lil Win’s upcoming movie, A Journey to Africa (Nzulezu). The stars landed at Kotoka International Airport on Wednesday and are expected to join the Ghanaian actor for the production.
The project brings together familiar faces from Ghana and Nigeria, giving the movie a clear pan African flavour. According to the report on the production, it is Lil Win’s second major international film project after A Country Called Ghana. Destiny Etiko also shared her excitement about the production, with the actress highlighting the chance to make a good movie, have fun and enjoy Ghanaian food.
Why Nzulezu Adds Something Different
The choice of Nzulezu gives the production more than just a filming location. The historic settlement sits on Lake Tadane in Ghana’s Western Region and is known for its distinctive buildings constructed on stilts over the water. The Ghana Museums and Monuments Board describes the settlement as a remarkable example of the relationship between people and their natural environment.
UNESCO has placed the Nzulezu Stilt Settlement on Ghana’s Tentative List for World Heritage consideration. UNESCO records the site as being in the Jomoro District near Beyin and notes its cultural importance and unusual water based settlement. This means the film could also put one of Ghana’s less ordinary cultural locations in front of a wider African and international audience.
A Film That Could Connect Two Industries
The collaboration is also interesting because Ghana and Nigeria already have strong links in African entertainment. Nollywood has built a huge audience across the continent, while Ghana’s Kumawood industry has developed its own loyal following through local language films and comedy.
Bringing stars from both sides into one production can create fresh opportunities for storytelling, audiences and future collaborations. For Ghanaian viewers, seeing popular Nigerian actors working alongside Lil Win at a recognisable Ghanaian location adds another layer of interest.
For Nzulezu, the attention comes with an important responsibility. The community is not simply a movie backdrop. It is a living settlement with its own traditions and way of life. The Ghana Museums and Monuments Board notes that traditional activities and customs remain closely connected to the lake.
As filming for A Journey to Africa (Nzulezu) gets underway, attention will now turn to what Lil Win and his Nigerian colleagues create from the setting. If the production captures the character of Nzulezu while delivering the entertainment audiences expect, the project could offer viewers both a movie experience and a fresh look at one of Ghana’s unique cultural treasures.
