The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has given prospective parliamentary aspirants until Tuesday, November 10, 2026, to declare their intention to contest the party’s parliamentary primaries ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The party has also set a non-refundable application fee of GH¢5,000 for all interested aspirants, including sitting Members of Parliament.
The declaration process opened on November 1, 2026, as part of a new arrangement introduced by the party to guide the selection of its parliamentary candidates.
NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong announced the guidelines, explaining that interested members must complete an online expression-of-interest form through the party’s designated portal.
Sitting MPs are not exempt
Under the new guidelines, incumbent MPs seeking to contest again must go through the same process as other aspirants.
The party says all applicants will undergo vetting and screening to determine whether they meet the NPP’s constitutional requirements and Ghana’s legal requirements for parliamentary candidates.
The exercise is expected to cover prospective candidates across all 276 constituencies.
Campaign ban remains in force
The NPP has cautioned aspirants against treating the declaration of interest as permission to begin campaigning.
The party says its earlier directive suspending campaign activities by aspirants, their agents and supporters remains in force until official clearance is granted.
The declaration process is therefore an administrative step ahead of the formal nomination and primary stages.
December workshops planned
The party has also scheduled capacity-building workshops for prospective parliamentary candidates in December.
The Northern Zone workshop is scheduled for December 1 to 4, the Middle Zone from December 8 to 11, and the Southern Zone from December 15 to 18.
The NPP says the process is intended to promote discipline and ensure that prospective candidates understand the responsibilities involved in representing the party.
The November 10 deadline means interested members have only a limited period to complete the online declaration and payment requirements before the next stages of the party’s 2028 parliamentary candidate selection process.
