The Ghana Police Service has arrested 72-year-old Samuel Christopher Osei Anto, the principal suspect in the killing of two relatives at NTHC Estate, Sakumono, in the Greater Accra Region.
The suspect was arrested on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at his hideout in Tikrom, near Ejisu in the Ashanti Region, following intelligence gathered by the police.
According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, officers retrieved a Smith & Wesson pistol and seven rounds of live ammunition during the arrest.
The firearm and ammunition have been retained as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.
Arrest Follows Sakumono Double Shooting
The arrest follows the fatal shooting of 57-year-old George Atuguba and his 47-year-old niece, Irene Atuguba, at their residence in NTHC Estate, Sakumono, on Friday, October 30, 2026.
The incident triggered a police investigation and a manhunt for Osei Anto, who was identified as the principal suspect.
Police had earlier announced that a 47-year-old woman, Beatrice Mumuni, had been arrested in connection with the case. She was suspected of accompanying the principal suspect to the victims’ residence before the shooting.
Alleged GH¢500,000 Debt Dispute
Preliminary police investigations suggest that the killings may have been triggered by a financial disagreement involving the suspect and George Atuguba.
Police say George had allegedly borrowed GH¢500,000 from Osei Anto but failed to repay the money.
The suspect reportedly visited the victims’ residence with Mumuni to demand repayment. A misunderstanding allegedly followed, resulting in the fatal shooting.
These details form part of the police account and remain subject to further investigation.
Suspect in Police Custody
The Ashanti Regional Police Command confirmed that Osei Anto is currently in police custody, assisting investigators with their inquiries.
The recovery of the pistol and ammunition is expected to form part of the evidence examined as police work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The arrest marks a significant development in the investigation, which began after the two relatives were killed at their Sakumono residence.
The suspect remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of law.
