President Mahama Deepens Ties with Belarus to Revolutionize Ghana’s Agricultural Sector

President John Dramani Mahama has officially arrived in Minsk to begin a high-level state visit to the Republic of Belarus. Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich and other senior Belarusian officials greeted the President upon his arrival at the airport.

Following the welcome, President Mahama paid his respects at the Victory Monument in Minsk. He laid a wreath to honor the Belarusian and Soviet Army soldiers who sacrificed their lives liberating the country during World War II.

Several dignitaries witnessed this solemn ceremony, including the Governor of Minsk, Vladimir Kukharev, and Ghana’s Ambassador to Russia, Dr. Koma Steem Jehu-Appiah. This visit underscores the growing diplomatic relationship between the two nations.

A major highlight of the trip involved President Mahama visiting the Belagro 2026 agricultural exhibition alongside the Deputy Prime Minister. The exhibition showcased the latest advancements in heavy farming equipment, mining machinery, and various other industrial sectors.

President Mahama took time to tour the impressive displays from several key Belarusian companies. His itinerary included a look at the Minsk Tractor Works product lineup and specialized fertilizer equipment from Bobruiskagromash.

He also inspected the massive BelAZ-75710 haul truck, which represents the cutting edge of industrial mining technology. This equipment aligns with the government’s broader vision to modernize local production capabilities.

President Mahama noted that this visit is particularly timely given his administration’s commitment to revolutionizing the agriculture sector. He aims to leverage the vast experience and technical expertise of Belarus to boost local productivity.

While he expressed genuine admiration for the quality of the machinery on display, the President maintained a pragmatic stance. He emphasized that flawless technical support and the reliable availability of spare parts are strict prerequisites for any final transactions.

The President also stressed the importance of robust after-sales service to ensure the long-term success of these investments. By focusing on these operational details, his administration hopes to avoid common pitfalls associated with importing foreign technology.

This strategic partnership could provide the necessary tools to scale up operations for Ghanaian farmers and industrial players. Strengthening these international ties remains a central pillar of the government’s development agenda for the coming years.

The visit concludes with high expectations for future cooperation between Ghana and Belarus in the agricultural and mining sectors. Both nations appear eager to build a mutually beneficial framework that promotes sustainable growth and technical exchange.
