Ghanaian rapper Joey B has finally opened up about the health struggles that forced him to step away from the music scene for an extended period.
In a candid interview on 3Music TV this past Wednesday, he revealed that a long-term, undiagnosed case of asthma was the root cause of his sudden disappearance from the spotlight.
For years, Joey B suffered through recurring illness without knowing exactly what was wrong. He frequently dismissed his symptoms as common bouts of malaria, sinusitis, or simple exhaustion. He recalls feeling incredibly weak and often struggling to catch his breath during his daily activities.
The turning point finally came around 2019 or 2020 when a doctor correctly identified his condition as asthma. This diagnosis came as a surprise, though he soon learned that his father also had a history of the same respiratory issue.
The rapper’s environment played a massive role in his declining health. He admitted that he practically lived and slept in recording studios, which acted as a major trigger for his asthma attacks. The combination of long hours and poor air quality in those confined spaces made it nearly impossible for him to recover without making a drastic lifestyle change.
Despite the fear and frustration caused by his illness, Joey B never considered quitting music for good. He treated his time away as a necessary period of recovery, focusing on regaining the strength needed to perform at his best again.
The revelation serves as a reminder that our favorite stars are human beings who face the same health uncertainties as the rest of us. It is quite brave to be open about these struggles, especially in an industry that often demands constant productivity and high energy.
We are glad to see him back and healthy. His journey shows that taking care of one’s body is the ultimate priority, even when it means hitting the pause button on a successful career.
