His family confirmed his peaceful transition on Wednesday, September sixteenth. Fondly called the Lion of Lufodo, his death marks a deeply emotional moment for millions of movie lovers across the continent.
Born Oludotun Baiyewun Jacobs, the legendary actor spent over five decades shaping the identity of African entertainment. Before returning home to pioneer the Nigerian film industry, he trained at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. His early career featured prominent roles on British television during the nineteen seventies. He brought unmatched class, deep diction, and royal presence to every single role he played.
Fans across Ghana, Nigeria, and beyond grew up watching him command respect on TV screens. He effortlessly transitioned from playing wise traditional kings to loving fathers and strict bosses. His immense contribution earned him the prestigious Member of the Order of the Federal Republic national honor. Beyond the screen, he built an inspiring marriage and business partnership with fellow screen icon Joke Silva.
In his later years, the veteran icon faced health battles relating to Dementia with Lewy Bodies. His wife openly shared their journey to raise awareness and manage false rumors that frequently circulated online. Despite these private challenges, his towering influence on African storytelling remained permanently etched in public memory. Tributes have continued to pour in from top celebrities, government bodies, and grieving fans.
