Barcelona midfielder Rodri Hernández has suffered a hamstring injury and will be unavailable for the club’s upcoming LaLiga match against Atlético Madrid.
The Spanish international underwent medical tests on Wednesday, November 4, after experiencing muscular discomfort during Barcelona’s Champions League victory over Aston Villa on Tuesday.
The club confirmed that the tests revealed a minor injury to the biceps femoris muscle in his right leg.
Rodri was substituted at half-time during Barcelona’s 3-0 victory over Aston Villa, with Marc Bernal replacing him for the second half.
Rodri to miss Atlético Madrid encounter
Barcelona confirmed that the midfielder will miss Sunday’s LaLiga meeting with Atlético Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium.
The club has not provided a definite return date, explaining that his recovery period will depend on how the injury develops.
However, reports suggest that Rodri could be sidelined for close to a month.
His absence is a setback for manager Hansi Flick as Barcelona prepare for an important league fixture against Diego Simeone’s side.
Spain also faces uncertainty
The injury could also affect Rodri’s availability for Spain’s upcoming international fixtures in November.
If the reported recovery period is accurate, the midfielder could miss Spain’s matches against the Czech Republic and England during the international break.
Barcelona will monitor his recovery before determining when he can return to full training and competitive action.
The club will be hoping the injury is not serious enough to keep the influential midfielder out for an extended period.
