The Court of Appeal has delivered a massive legal shockwave by acquitting and discharging former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer Sedina Christine Tamakloe Attionu.
This unexpected court ruling delivered on Thursday, July 30, 2026, completely overturns her earlier ten year prison sentence. The decision frees her from all corruption charges following months of intense public and legal drama.
The Accra High Court previously convicted Tamakloe Attionu in April 2024 on multiple counts including stealing, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state. The trial judge handed her a ten year sentence in hard labour while her co accused Daniel Axim received five years.
Prosecutors originally claimed that funds meant for small business support, disaster relief, and sensitization programs between 2013 and 2016 were misappropriated. However, her defense team consistently argued that the state failed to prove these allegations beyond reasonable doubt.
Tamakloe Attionu was famously tried in absentia after travelling to the United States for medical treatment and failing to return. US authorities later arrested her in Nevada before extraditing her back to Ghana in June 2026 to begin serving her term.
Her lawyers immediately challenged the original conviction, pointing out critical defects in the charge sheet and key gaps in state evidence. The Court of Appeal agreed with the defense arguments and nullified her entire sentence, bringing this long running state case to an abrupt end.
