Law students in Northern Ghana can finally breathe a huge sigh of relief. The University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS) just secured major approval to run the newly introduced one-year pre-Bar programme.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Emmanuel Kanchebe Derbile shared this massive win during the school’s second congregation ceremony in Wa. The General Legal Council officially selected UBIDS as one of the 19 institutions authorized to roll out this crucial course under the Legal Education Act, 2026 (Act 1170).

For years, getting quality professional legal training felt like a luxury reserved for a few locations. Thankfully, these fresh government legal education reforms are actively breaking down old barriers while keeping standards very high.
The school is already proving its academic weight. This year alone, 70 fresh LLB students graduated, adding up to 133 total law graduates since the programme started.
Even better, their first-ever batch achieved a near 70 percent pass rate in the Ghana School of Law entrance exams. With 28 out of 42 candidates currently rocking their professional courses, the university is showing it means business.
The ceremony also celebrated 298 postgraduate achievers, including eight PhD holders who are ready to transform the nation. Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin even dropped by as the Special Guest to praise the rapid growth of the school.
UBIDS is truly step by step becoming a heavy strategic driver for national development right from Upper West. The dream of becoming a lawyer just got much closer to home for many determined Ghanaians.
