Your digital footprints can either build your future or completely destroy your hard work. The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) is actively urging young people to treat social media with absolute caution.
The Ada East Director of the NCCE, Faustina Blewusi, dropped this crucial advice during a Constitution Week sensitization engagement at the Ada Technical Institute. The educational campaign aims to deepen students’ understanding of the 1992 Constitution while promoting positive digital behavior across Ghana.
The internet preserves permanent records of everything you click, share, or type out. Madam Blewusi explained that if you aspire to hold any major leadership or professional position in Ghana, your past engagements can easily be tracked down.
The commission cautions young citizens to refrain from spreading fake news, engaging in cyberbullying, or promoting online hate speech. A single reckless post today can damage your personal reputation and cause top companies or universities to reject your applications later.
The recent sensitization drive forms part of a larger national framework to nurture patriotism and discipline among the youth. The Directorate confirmed that these civic education campaigns will expand to more schools across the Ada East District.
The NCCE recently organized dynamic Citizenship Week celebrations in local basic schools to teach children law abiding behavior from an early age. This widespread approach ensures that the next generation grows up respecting the rule of law both offline and online.
Beyond digital behavior, the NCCE is actively fighting deep-seated community challenges like child labor, child trafficking, and poor parental responsibility. The commission uses sustained public education and local radio broadcasts to address these critical issues.
Students must put these vital civic lessons into practice daily by becoming responsible digital citizens. Respecting the constitution and thinking carefully before publishing content remains the ultimate strategy to safeguard your future career.
