Ghana to Send More Nurses and Doctors to Jamaica, UK, Germany and US

Ghanaian health workers are gaining massive recognition worldwide due to their high training standards. The Ministry of Health recently announced a major expansion of its structured health worker exchange programme to create secure international employment paths.

This initiative allows local nurses and medical officers to gain valuable international experience while strengthening bilateral cooperation. The expansion targets top global destinations including Jamaica, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, Tony Goodman, confirmed the expansion plans during a live interview on Citi FM on Saturday, June 27, 2026. He revealed that a fresh group of local applicants is already undergoing competitive interviews for placements in Jamaica.

This update follows the successful deployment of forty-seven Ghanaian nurses to Saint Kitts and Nevis on two year renewable contracts. The rising global traffic for local professionals highlights why Ghana continues to produce some of the best medical minds in Africa.

The Ministry of Health ensures the entire recruitment pipeline remains transparent and fully secure for all applicants. The process follows a strict regulatory framework to prevent illegal recruitment scams.

Once Ghana signs an official memorandum of understanding with a partner country, the Ministry publicly advertises the available vacancies. Qualified health workers then go through a rigorous joint selection process conducted by both Ghanaian authorities and representatives from the destination country before final visa processing and deployment.

While some fear the brain drain effect, this structured exchange programme helps professionals bring advanced skills back to the Ghanaian health sector later. It provides a legal, safe path for nurses who want to elevate their careers abroad.

The high demand from the US, UK, and Germany proves that certificates from Ghanaian nursing and medical colleges hold premium value globally. The government expects to finalize more bilateral agreements before the end of the year.
