The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested three men suspected of belonging to a motorcycle gang accused of terrorising residents in parts of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
The suspects, identified as 23-year-old Sharif Mahmud, 25-year-old Abdallah Karim and 25-year-old James Alena, were arrested during a police operation at Suame in the early hours of Sunday, November 1, 2026.
According to the police, the suspects are allegedly part of a group operating within the Breman-Kronum-Suame enclave, where members engage in illegal midnight motorcycle racing and attack unsuspecting pedestrians.
The alleged activities have reportedly created fear and insecurity among residents, particularly those who travel or walk through the affected communities at night.
How the suspects were arrested
In a statement issued on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, the Ashanti Regional Police Command said the arrests followed sustained monitoring of the group’s activities and movements.
Police officers reportedly intercepted the three suspects at about 1:40 a.m. during an operation at Suame.
The Command said the suspected group had repeatedly evaded arrest, prompting officers to intensify efforts to track down its members.
However, several other suspected members reportedly escaped during the operation.
Suspects granted police inquiry bail
The three arrested men have since been granted police inquiry bail and are expected to appear before court when sittings resume.
Their court appearance has been affected by the ongoing strike by members of the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG), which has disrupted court activities across the country.
The police have not indicated that the suspects have been convicted of any offence. Investigations are continuing to establish the full extent of their alleged activities and identify other people believed to be involved.
Police pursue other suspected gang members
The Ashanti Regional Police Command says efforts are underway to identify, locate and arrest the remaining suspected members who escaped during the operation.
The Command has also appealed to residents to provide credible information that could assist investigators in tracking down those still at large.
The arrests come amid concerns about public safety and criminal activities in parts of Kumasi.
Residents are being encouraged to cooperate with the police by reporting suspicious activities and providing information that could help prevent further attacks.
The police have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of people living and working in the affected communities.
The investigation remains ongoing.
