Another sad news on our roads. Two people have lost their lives, and eight others are nursing serious injuries after a terrible accident at Dompoase, near Komenda on the busy Cape Coast-Takoradi highway.
The incident happened on Friday evening, July 31, 2026. A Toyota Hiace, carrying 10 passengers, smashed into a broken-down truck. It’s the kind of news that breaks your heart because it sounds so avoidable.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in Komenda, they got the distress call just before 7:00 p.m. When the rescue team arrived, they found one person trapped in the mangled Toyota Hiace. The firefighters worked fast and managed to get the victim out, but sadly, one person died at the scene. Another victim passed away later, bringing the total number of deaths to two.
The Central Regional PRO for the GNFS, DO II Abdul Wasiu Hudu, confirmed that all 10 people in the Hiace were injured, with three in critical condition. The National Ambulance Service rushed them to the Elmina Polyclinic for medical care.
So, what caused this? Eyewitnesses say an unidentified vehicle driving from Takoradi towards Cape Coast tried a reckless overtaking move. The driver of the Toyota Hiace, heading the other way, swerved to avoid a head-on collision. Unfortunately, that swerve sent the Hiace crashing straight into a stationary truck left on the side of the road.
This accident is a painful reminder for all drivers. Wrongful overtaking and leaving broken-down vehicles on our highways without proper warning signs continue to claim innocent lives. Let’s be more careful out there. Investigations are still ongoing to track down the vehicle that triggered this tragedy.
