Tarkwa youth are marching peacefully through the streets to protect their livelihoods. Hundreds of residents and opinion leaders joined hands to demand that government renews Gold Fields’ mining lease before April 2027.
The mining company has invested heavily in community development over the years. Projects like the modern T&A Park, major asphalt roads, quality healthcare, and local scholarships came directly from Gold Fields. Local leaders say losing this giant will turn off the economic light of Tarkwa.
Ghana Chamber of Mines confirms Gold Fields has satisfied key renewal conditions. The youth prefer an experienced corporate firm over unpredictable hands to safeguard local jobs and sustain business growth across the municipality.
