Nigerian Afrobeat artists Wizkid and Asake, who have been apart for more than ten years but are connected by their ascent from Lagos’ inner cities, have teamed up on the joint effort “REAL, Vol. 1.” The EP features a smooth transition between generations, with Asake’s innovative energy and Wizkid’s seasoned grace.
Songs like “Iskolodo” and “Jogodo,” which glide above amapiano-adjacent beats and mesmerizing log drums, demonstrate their melodic expertise and cultural power. “REAL, Vol. 1” is more than just a compilation of songs; it’s a shimmering celebration of their common roots and the developing Afrobeats style.
