Political drama in Ghana just entered a whole new level. Legal experts are speaking up, and the message is loud and clear: Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, is embarking on an unconstitutional and wasteful mission with his ambitious NPP National Chairmanship bid.
If you follow local politics closely, you know Wontumi always brings big energy. But energy alone does not override party regulations or Ghana’s 1992 Constitution. Prominent legal practitioners are raising major red flags regarding his qualification and eligibility status while navigating ongoing legal challenges.
Under Article 14 of the NPP Constitution, national officer positions require strict adherence to internal rules, character standards, and legal standing. A lawyer reviewing his campaign strategy noted that pursuing a top political post while burdened by severe legal complications creates massive legal risks. It wastes time, political capital, and delegates’ energy on an ambition that could easily get disqualified by the courts or party vetting committees.
The truth is, governance relies on respect for the rule of law. When political figures push ahead despite glaring constitutional barriers, it hurts party unity and drains election resources. Delegates must look beyond theatrical rallies and ask serious logical questions.
Is this campaign really helping the Elephant party, or is it just another unnecessary legal battle in the making? Only time will tell, but the legal warning signs are everywhere.
