Sixteen passengers traveling from Kumasi to Wa narrowly escaped a tragic accident when their Yutong bus burst into flames at Gbogdaa. The incident occurred along the busy Bole-Sawla highway in the Savannah Region, destroying goods worth thousands of Ghana cedis.

Travelers on long-distance commercial buses often worry about unexpected breakdowns, but this close call shows how quickly a routine trip can turn into panic.

Passengers noticed a strong smell of fuel inside the vehicle while passing through communities between Bole and Mankuma. The engine began overheating shortly after, forcing the alert driver to park on the roadside for an immediate inspection.

Before mechanics could check the engine, thick smoke turned into violent flames that rapidly engulfed the entire bus. Passengers scrambled out through the doors and emergency exits just in time, leaving their personal belongings behind to save their lives.

Officers from the Sawla Fire Station rushed to the scene to extinguish the blaze and secure the highway. Authorities confirmed that all 16 passengers escaped completely unhurt, with zero casualties recorded from the inferno.

The scary highway emergency exposes serious infrastructural gaps within local district emergency response systems. Residents in Bole District continue to rely on neighboring fire stations because the main Bole Fire Service tender remains out of commission.

Road safety officials now advise commercial transport operators to conduct thorough mechanical checks before embarking on long journeys across Ghana. Drivers must pay immediate attention to unusual fuel smells or dashboard warning lights to protect human lives.
