The streets of Accra are buzzing with serious gossip after a video of a legal drama popped up online. Lawyer Baffour Awuah Agyei found himself in a wild face-off with officers from the Economic and Organized Crime Office.
People were asking questions left and right about whether a lawyer can just speed off from law enforcement agents. The brilliant legal practitioner decided to clear the air and speak to the press about what actually transpired. The arrest of Salomey Awusi Baffour
The whole trouble started because of his client named Salomey Awusi Baffour who works as a hardworking nurse in Techiman. State security operatives picked her up right inside her room while she was chilling with her young children. Her little baby is just four years old, and the family was left in complete darkness for almost four days. Nobody knew where she was taken, and the authorities did not even allow her to call a legal representative. When Lawyer Baffour stepped in to fight for her rights at the Accra High Court, he stepped on some powerful toes.
Why the lawyer drove off from officers
As the lawyer finished his court duties and walked toward his car to leave, a lady blocked his path. She claimed she came from EOCO and that her bosses needed him urgently for some quick investigations. The lawyer simply asked her to show an official invitation letter to prove her claims before he follows them. The lady could not produce any paper trail and instead insisted on dragging him into her own official vehicle. Wisdom told him that if someone tries to arrest you without proper ID or a letter, that person might be a kidnapper. He smartly ignored her protests, hopped inside his own car, and drove away safely to protect his personal security.
The legal reality of official invitations
In Ghana, law enforcement agencies like EOCO must follow proper legal protocols when inviting any citizen or lawyer for questioning. You cannot just walk up to a legal practitioner outside a courtroom and demand his movement without formal documentation. Lawyer Baffour acted based on logical self defense because transparency is key when dealing with state institutions. If state agencies want cooperation, they must respect the rule of law instead of using intimidation tactics on legal minds. This story teaches us all a big lesson about knowing our rights when dealing with law enforcement officers in town.
