The Ghana Education Service has finally stepped in to save parents from the heavy stress of illegal school charges.
Management issued a strict warning telling all heads of Senior High Schools and Senior High Technical Schools to stop collecting unauthorized levies. Some school heads were forcing parents to pay extra money and buy items directly from the campus during admissions. That kind of behavior goes completely against the main rules of the free senior high school policy.
Nobody should use admission or school enrollment as an excuse to drain the pockets of innocent mothers and fathers. The official statement made it clear that paying money for PTA dues or admission extras must never block any student from getting education. Even the issue concerning PTA dues is currently resting before the law courts so nobody should collect anything under that name. School authorities must learn to wait patiently for final legal directions instead of creating confusion everywhere.
Any headmaster or headmistress who has already collected such unauthorized money must refund every pesewa back to the rightful owners. Management also asked these school heads to provide clear evidence showing that the refunds have actually been paid out. Folding arms and treating this directive like joke will land stubborn heads into deep administrative trouble including losing their positions. Regional directors have received strict orders to monitor every single campus to make sure compliance happens without delay.
Parents who experience any form of intimidation or forced item purchases on campus should speak out quickly by reporting to the authorities. Education remains a fundamental right for every Ghanaian child without unnecessary financial obstacles mounted by greedy middlemen. Staying vigilant helps protect the integrity of our national school system while keeping rogue administrators on their toes. Let us all support this bold move to ensure peace of mind for families during every academic admission season.
