Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has called on the Nigerian government to investigate alleged attacks on properties belonging to Ghanaian business mogul Sir Sam Jonah. The minister raised these concerns while receiving the letters of credence of Nigeria’s High Commissioner-designate to Ghana, Shehu Ilu Barde.
Mr. Ablakwa specifically urged the envoy to look into safety issues surrounding Sir Sam Jonah’s Mobus Properties in Nigeria. Protecting cross border investments remains critical for sustaining investor confidence and growing financial prosperity across West Africa.
In response to the petition, High Commissioner-designate Shehu Ilu Barde assured the Foreign Minister that he would examine the situation promptly. He pledged to engage appropriate state authorities and security stakeholders in Nigeria to address every reported concern regarding Mobus Properties.
Reassuring foreign investors through transparent investigations preserves the longstanding diplomatic friendship between Ghana and Nigeria. Protecting private property gives continental businesses the confidence needed to build long term commercial ventures.
Beyond resolving property safety concerns, both leaders discussed strategies to deepen bilateral economic cooperation. Mr. Ablakwa urged member states to remove artificial trade barriers to maximize benefits under the African Continental Free Trade Area.
He also called on West African nations to build public trust in the proposed ECO single currency initiative. Introducing a unified regional currency will simplify cross border trade, lower transaction costs, and boost economic integration for all ECOWAS countries.
