The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has promised to construct a new police station at Sefwi Sayerano in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region. The announcement follows a fatal police shooting incident that claimed two lives and left three others injured in the community on July 7, 2026.
To help relieve the heavy emotional pain of the affected families, the minister also promised police recruitment slots to relatives who lost their loved ones during the tragic confrontation.
The Interior Minister visited the community alongside the Minister of Health and Member of Parliament for Sefwi Juaboso, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh. The ministerial delegation met with grieving families and injured victims to offer condolences and deliver emergency support.
During the community gathering, both ministers appealed for calm and assured residents that the government would ensure impartial justice. Eight police personnel connected to the violent operation have already been interdicted to allow smooth, independent investigations.
The tragedy occurred when police officers from the Sefwi Wiawso Divisional Command attempted to arrest a suspected drug peddler in Sayerano. The operation triggered strong resistance from local youths, leading to a violent confrontation and shooting.
Constructing a dedicated police station directly inside Sefwi Sayerano will build long term trust between law enforcement officers and community members. Establishing permanent security structures ensures professional community policing while keeping local towns safe across the Juaboso District.
