Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has accused the government of inconsistency over the future of the National Cathedral project.
According to him, the government has not clearly explained what it intends to do with the site.
Speaking during an engagement with the Christian Council, Afenyo-Markin said the government’s position on the project appears to keep changing.
He said this has left the public uncertain about the government’s plans for the site.
Afenyo-Markin, however, said he believes Ghana still needs the National Cathedral.
He argued that the project should not be viewed only as a place of worship but also as a potential tourism and national heritage asset.
The Effutu MP said a completed National Cathedral could attract visitors and serve as a national landmark.
He cited the tourism value of historic religious buildings in other countries as an example of what Ghana could achieve.
The National Cathedral project has faced controversy over funding, transparency and its future.
The government has dissolved the Board of Trustees of the project but has yet to announce a definitive position on whether the project will be continued, repurposed or abandoned.
