The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has warned customers across the country against fraudsters selling fake meters and demanding mobile money payments.

ECG says some fraudsters are contacting electricity customers by phone and asking them to send money to private mobile money numbers.

The company has urged the public not to send money to individuals claiming to be selling ECG meters or providing electricity services.

ECG’s General Manager for External Communications, Dr Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, issued the warning during an interview.

He advised customers to be careful when dealing with people who request payments through personal MoMo numbers.

Customers are encouraged to use only official ECG channels for payments and meter-related services.

ECG says the public should report suspicious calls, messages or individuals to the appropriate authorities.

The warning comes as fraudsters continue to use phone calls and fake meter offers to target electricity customers across Ghana.
