Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has directed the immediate deployment of 10 medical doctors and 30 nurses and midwives to the Weija Children’s Specialist Hospital.
The directive follows the Minister’s inspection of the hospital, which has a 120-bed capacity and has started operating as a specialised referral centre for children.
Hospital to Get More Health Workers
According to Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the additional health workers are needed to strengthen the hospital’s workforce as it expands its services.
The hospital is currently providing outpatient and emergency services. Management is also preparing to expand inpatient services.
The Minister said the government wants the facility to become fully operational and serve its intended purpose.
He described the hospital as a referral centre that is expected to operate as a standalone specialist facility for children.
Minister Calls for Quality Healthcare
During his visit, Akandoh urged management and health workers to maintain high standards of patient care.
He also stressed the need to keep the facility clean and properly maintained.
The Minister called on health workers to treat children and their families with respect and dignity.
According to him, almost all the equipment needed for the hospital has been installed. This will allow the facility to gradually expand the services it provides.
Government Addresses Contractor Issues
The Health Minister also spoke about outstanding issues involving the government and the contractor responsible for the hospital project.
He said steps are being taken to resolve the issues.
Akandoh stressed that the immediate priority is to ensure that the facility is fully utilised for the benefit of children and their families.
Weija Hospital Set to Expand Services
The Weija Children’s Specialist Hospital has a 120-bed capacity and is expected to provide specialised healthcare services for children.
The deployment of the 10 doctors and 30 nurses and midwives is expected to strengthen the hospital’s workforce as it expands its operations.
The facility is also expected to play an important role in supporting Ghana’s healthcare system by providing specialised paediatric services.
