Sunday morning commuters at Tech Junction-Top High in the Oforikrom Municipality of the Ashanti Region experienced sudden confusion after four vehicles collided in heavy rush hour traffic. The accident occurred around 7:15 a.m. when an emergency vehicle attempted to navigate through tightly packed gridlock.
Eyewitnesses reported that the ambulance, with registration number GV 554-24, was traveling along the Ejisu stretch with its siren blaring. As drivers waited at a red traffic light, the emergency driver tried to squeeze between lanes where space was far too tight for passage.
The ambulance struck two stationary cars, which then bumped into two other vehicles stopped ahead of them. Drivers expressed frustration over the incident, noting that while they respect emergency calls, forcing a passage through a completely blocked lane creates unnecessary danger for everyone.
The ambulance driver explained off-camera that he was transporting a patient to the hospital in critical condition and needed to beat the traffic. Authorities quickly dispatched a backup ambulance to safely transfer the patient to the medical facility without further delay.
Officers from the Adum Division of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service arrived at the scene to manage traffic flow and record vehicle damage. Fortunately, the crash recorded zero injuries or fatalities, although all four vehicles suffered bumper and fender damage.
Tow trucks cleared the damaged cars shortly after, restoring smooth traffic flow along the busy Top High corridor. The incident serves as a vital reminder for authorities and motorists to improve emergency corridor management across busy Kumasi roads.
