The Evangelical Presbyterian College of Education in Amedzofe, popularly known as AMECO, has officially recorded the highest number of First Class Honours in its entire history. During the 18th Congregation ceremony on Friday, August 21, 2026, 31 brilliant graduates out of 282 students earned First Class Honours. This massive win beats the previous record of 27 First Class graduates achieved in 2025.
The atmospheric joy at the campus in the Volta Region showed true pride as family and friends gathered to celebrate this academic victory. Another 177 students graduated with Second Class Upper, while 74 students earned Second Class Lower.
The Principal of AMECO, Dr. Dickson Tsey, explained that this record-breaking success came from steady hard work and determination by both teachers and students. Management made strategic moves over the past year to hire more qualified staff, which directly improved teaching standards on campus. The student population has also grown to 1,131 students, showing how much trust parents have in the institution.
This historical graduation aligned perfectly with the 80th-anniversary celebrations of the college under the theme: “80 years of excellence in teacher education; The Role of AI in the Training of Teachers”. The Deputy Director General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, Professor Augustine Ocloo, praised the school for remaining a strong pillar in Ghanaian teacher education since 1946.
The alumni year group of 2000 also stepped up by donating a mechanized borehole to help resolve campus water challenges. As AMECO moves forward, the school management plans to build modern lecture halls and expand digital tools so future student cohorts can keep breaking academic records.
