The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat has executed a major raid at Mpohor Fiase in the Western Region, arresting nineteen suspected illegal miners.
The intelligence-led operation took place on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, targeting sites that operated boldly near the local police station. Task force officers responded swiftly after local farmers, traditional authorities, and residents raised alarms over open galamsey operations destroying farmland and water bodies.
During the swift crackdown, task force officers destroyed sixteen chanfang machines, nine water pumps, and three temporary shelters. Operatives also disabled a heavy excavator on-site by removing key electrical components to stop any further illegal activity.
Task force members seized a pump-action shotgun alongside four rounds of live ammunition from one suspect. Officers also recovered 120,000 Ghana Cedis in cash from another suspect at the mining site.
All nineteen suspects and seized items remain in official custody as law enforcement agencies prepare formal charges for prosecution. NAIMOS officials reiterated their strong commitment to protecting Ghana’s mineral resources, urging citizens to report ongoing galamsey activities to help safeguard host communities.
