Finding money to start or expand a small business in Ghana is always a massive struggle. However, the Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG) has just dropped some incredibly good news for our hardworking entrepreneurs. The bank officially partnered with the Social Investment Fund to disburse a heavy US$5 million to support local businesses. This fresh cash injection specifically targets women, the youth, and our micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises.
This beautiful initiative falls directly under the Ghana Women and Youth Empowerment, Employment and Social Cohesion Access to Finance Compact. It forms a major part of broader national efforts to expand access to affordable financing for vulnerable groups. The project strongly seeks to promote entrepreneurship and create decent, sustainable jobs across our local communities.
The Managing Director of CBG, Dr. Naomi Wolali Kwetey, signed the historic agreement in Accra on Tuesday. She confidently explained that this solid partnership perfectly reflects their shared commitment to empowering marginalized groups. The bank will strategically deploy the US$5 million facility, which equals roughly 55 million Ghana cedis, over a 36-month period.
They expect this three-year programme to directly benefit about 3,000 hardworking individuals. The very first tranche of the money will successfully reach approximately 800 lucky individuals and small businesses. Dr. Kwetey of CBG strictly promised that the bank will ensure a very transparent beneficiary selection process without any political bias.
The selected beneficiaries will not just receive raw cash and walk away. The bank will also provide essential business development services and proper financial literacy training. This extra knowledge will definitely strengthen their capacity to manage the funds responsibly and build lasting enterprises. This is exactly the kind of financial backing our local economy needs to boom right now.
