A violent explosion ripped through a busy public transport minibus in Jaramana, a suburb southeast of Damascus, causing shock and fear across the local community. State media confirmed that an explosive device planted inside the vehicle detonated during peak hours, destroying the vehicle and spreading debris across the street.
Emergency response teams and forensic experts rushed to the scene immediately to secure the area and handle casualties. Preliminary reports from the Health Ministry confirmed two people died and thirteen others sustained injuries, while medical workers placed nearby hospitals on high alert to treat the wounded.
Security forces immediately closed off the main thoroughfare in Jaramana to allow investigators and bomb experts to examine the wreckage. Heavy cranes eventually removed the shattered frame of the minibus while forensic officers gathered evidence from the scene.
The town of Jaramana is home to vibrant Christian and Druze communities that have previously faced security challenges. Local leaders recently issued joint statements urging national unity, making this sudden attack on ordinary commuters deeply troubling for residents trying to rebuild normal daily life.
No group has officially claimed responsibility for placing the explosive device inside the public bus. However, security authorities suspect active sleeper cells linked to extremist groups that continue to target civilians and public infrastructure across the capital region.
This latest incident highlights the lingering security threats confronting Syria despite government efforts to restore total stability. Authorities continue to urge citizens to report suspicious items on public transport as investigations into the Jaramana bombing progress.
