Kumasi drivers and commuters are finally seeing light at the end of the heavy traffic tunnel. Rango Construction Limited has officially kicked off construction on the crucial Abrepo Junction underpass, marking a major milestone for the Suame Interchange Project.
The Resident Engineer, Ing. Dennis Kusi Boateng, unveiled these details during the fifth stakeholders meeting arranged by project consultants, Associated Consultants Limited. He explained that workers will lower the road level to allow traffic moving between Barekese and Bantama to pass underground smoothly.
Meanwhile, vehicles travelling between the Airport Roundabout and Sofoline will use the elevated upper level. This smart engineering design aims to eliminate the legendary gridlock that frustrates drivers daily across the garden city.
Beyond lowering the road, contractor crews are expanding the entire road corridor to accommodate higher traffic volumes. Ing. Kusi Boateng confirmed that engagements with affected property owners are already underway so everyone knows what to expect.
Officials from the Land Valuation Board will inspect affected sites, evaluate legitimate properties, and negotiate fair compensation packages. Property owners whose fences or structures align with approved city layouts will receive proper compensation or full restoration.
However, the engineer clarified that individuals who built illegally on government right of way lands may not qualify for payout benefits. Municipal and Metropolitan Assemblies hold the legal mandate to clear unauthorized structures along the construction zone to avoid further project delays.
Project managers are appealing to all Kumasi residents and business owners to cooperate fully with site workers. Though temporary road diversions will cause minor inconvenience, the completed interchange will transform urban mobility and boost business activities across the Ashanti Region.
