Nine personnel belonging to the Blue Water Guards landed in police custody after allegedly extorting bribes from unsuspecting citizens. The suspects reportedly paraded themselves around as genuine officers of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS). Management of the security unit quickly issued a stern internal warning condemning the shameful act as a total betrayal of trust.
Working hand in hand with state anti-galamsey taskforces requires absolute honesty rather than using uniforms as tools for criminal extortion. Investigators noted that genuine Blue Water Guards members hold zero authority to impersonate NAIMOS officials during river patrols. Such rogue behaviors only destroy the hard-earned reputation of environmental protection programs operating within the Ashanti Region.
Authorities continue to screen field operatives strictly to fish out bad nuts tarnishing the fight against illegal mining. Every security personnel must remember that wearing a badge is a call to serve honorably rather than an invitation to harass innocent people. Courts will soon handle the matter as investigations unfold to ensure total accountability.
