A former American teacher, Laura Caron, 36, has pleaded guilty to second-degree endangering the welfare of a child involving sexual conduct after being accused of sexually abusing a former student in New Jersey.
According to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, Caron entered the guilty plea on October 28, 2026, in connection with a case involving a male student who was 11 years old when the alleged abuse began.
Prosecutors said the sexual abuse took place between 2016 and 2020, while the boy was living in Caron’s home. Caron was previously a fifth-grade teacher at Middle Township Elementary School.
Abuse Allegedly Began When Student Was 11
Investigators alleged that Caron engaged in sexual conduct with the boy over several years.
The case attracted significant attention after it emerged that Caron gave birth to a daughter in 2019, when the former student was 13 years old. Investigators said the boy was identified as the child’s father.
Caron was initially arrested on January 15, 2025, following an investigation by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Middle Township Police Department.
She was subsequently indicted on charges including aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Faces Five Years in State Prison
Under the plea agreement, Caron faces a recommended five-year sentence in New Jersey State Prison.
She will also be required to surrender her teaching licence and forfeit any future public employment.
Before serving her prison sentence, she will undergo an evaluation at the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Avenel to determine whether she is classified as repetitive and/or compulsive. The assessment could affect her final sentence.
Following her prison term, Caron will be required to register under Megan’s Law and remain under parole supervision for the rest of her life.
She is scheduled to appear before the court for sentencing on January 8, 2027.
The guilty plea brings a major development in a case that has raised concerns about the abuse of trust and the protection of children in educational settings.
