His beloved father Richard Colon officially shared the sad update on social media, bringing immense sorrow to fans worldwide. This tragic moment marks the final chapter for a brilliant athlete whose promising career was cut short over a decade ago.
Many people across the world remember his unfortunate and fateful bout against Terrel Williams back in October 2015. During that fierce contest, the undefeated fighter suffered severe brain injuries after absorbing multiple illegal blows to the back of his head. He spent hundreds of days fighting for his life in a coma before returning home to live under round-the-clock family care.
Colon’s tragic journey completely changed how international sporting bodies view safety protocols inside the squared circle. Major organizations eventually introduced stricter regulations and penalties regarding illegal rabbit punches to protect athletes from permanent harm. Promoters and referees now take pre-fight locker room warnings much more seriously than they did years ago.
